Fourth Grade Science

Students continue to develop their understanding and application of the scientific method in fourth grade. They are encouraged to ask questions, be curious, respect our environment, and explore science areas that are of particular interest to them.

Teachers use the outdoors in the study of insects, while the study of the eye and ear culminates with the dissection of a sheep’s eye.

Weather study includes temperature, clouds, fronts, storms, and measurement of rainfall. Biodiversity is taught in a special unit on the rain forest and its importance to the environment.

The year concludes with a study of simple machines. Students learn the six simple machines and then construct their own machines and demonstrate them for parents and other classes.
