Third Grade Science

Watching caterpillars make a cocoon and hatch as butterflies begins the year for third grade scientists. Other topics include geology, volcanoes, the respiratory system, water, and the life cycle of plants. The inquiry method of teaching science is well suited to students of this age as they are able to read, research, and draw conclusions.

The teachers work with them in the science laboratory, in the classrooms, and outdoors on campus. Learning whether conclusions are logical, testing hypotheses, and sharing results of experiments lead students to intellectual growth during the third grade year.
