Lower School Fine Arts

The art curriculum nurtures creativity, critical thinking and curiosity; proof of this brightens Lower School classrooms and hallways where student art is displayed. Art history, familiarity with artists, famous paintings, the elements of art, and the principles of design are incorporated as students work with a variety of art media.

Art projects correlate with themes studied in the classroom, and students enjoy critiquing and appreciating one another’s work on display. A high honor for Lower School students is being selected for the school wide Artscape show and reception held each spring.

Every Lower School student attends two general music classes a week. Beginning in the second grade, students have the opportunity to join the String Orchestra Program.

All Lower School students explore the world of music through singing, playing instruments, movement, composition, and studying famous composers and their works. During the year, the students prepare music and perform for Grandparents/Special Friends Day and Festival Day, and enjoy their respective grade level productions.
