Middle School Music
Band and String Orchestra are offered as Fine Arts electives in the Middle School curriculum at Athens Academy. Band and Orchestra classes are performance oriented. The instrumental music program affords students the opportunity to perform on campus as well as throughout the local community.
Athens Academy students have the opportunity to begin studying Band instruments in the fifth grade. Students are introduced to and can choose to study one of the woodwind, brass or percussion instruments. Band students present several performances on campus throughout the year. Individual students have the opportunity to participate in and/or audition for a variety of honor groups sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Georgia Independent Schools Association, the Athens Youth Symphony and the University of Georgia.
The Middle School String Orchestra program is a continuation of the Lower School program. Students elect to study violin, viola, cello or double bass. Students present three evening concerts on campus each year and perform throughout the local community. Numerous students participate in the Athens Youth Symphony program and, beginning in sixth grade, students may audition for the All-State Orchestra sponsored by the Georgia Music Educators Association.| Jenny Taylor | Debbie Schab |
