Sixth Grade Mathematics

In sixth grade mathematics students expand their knowledge from basic mathematical facts and skills to abstract thought and algebraic reasoning. Each day students work in three different areas of mathematics: computation, problem solving and conceptual understanding.

As they hone their computational skills students work to become fluent in mental computation. Using a variety of strategies to solve word problems, students learn to consider the process of solving the problem more important than simply finding the answer.

Conceptual understanding is broadened and deepened as students explore why math works, not just how. Students are challenged as they continue their growth in the language of mathematics.
