Seventh and Eighth Grade Fine Arts
Visual Arts
Students are given the opportunity to explore the world of visual art in year-long courses. Students are encouraged to express themselves through a variety of media with emphasis on drawing, painting, collages, sculpture with plaster and clay, photography and architecture.During the year, works created by student artists are exhibited throughout the school to build student self-esteem and to create a stimulating visual environment.
Field trips to art museums and artists’ studios enhance the curriculum and reinforce the student’s perception of art as integral to their lives.
Drama
This course is designed to help students develop the skills necessary to become effective communicators, spontaneous thinkers, and positive team contributors. Effective performing arts skills and good life skills involve being focused on the present at all times. The mental processes used in performing arts correspond directly to those needed in the workplace. Collaborations, or teamwork projects, give students opportunities to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
Teachers help students develop a positive attitude toward using the creative process to analyze and make decisions. This course focuses on these skills and works to improve them.
