Underclassman Awards 2009


D.A.R. Good Citizenship Awards - Elizabeth Newcomer & Sam Preston
Awarded to two juniors who have most fully demonstrated the qualities of honor, service, leadership, courage, and patriotism.
Humanities/Social Sciences Award - Christine Shaw
Presented to a junior who has shown outstanding scholarship in both English and the humanities.
Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award - David Himelick
Presented to a junior in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in science.
Wellesley College Book Award - Kena Vyas
Presented by the Upper School faculty to a junior girl who has an exceptional academic record and has made a significant personal contribution to her school or community through her leadership, character, and citizenship
Sewanee Book Award - Maggie Kellett
Presented by the Upper School faculty to a junior who has demonstrated excellence in writing, the promise of continued outstanding writing achievement, leadership, academic scholarship, and involvement in the community
Harvard Book Prize - Michael Lai
Awarded by the Upper School faculty to an outstanding junior who “displays excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields.” The winners of this award, through their intelligence and variety of achievement, exemplify Harvard’s concern for excellence


The William E. Smith Award

Presented to the students in the ninth, tenth, and eleventh grades whose performance reflects overall academic strength, commitment to learning, and excellence in scholarship. Recipients were nominated by the faculty for departmental recognition in at least three academic disciplines.
