Upper School Freshman Year

Moving from Middle School to Upper School in ninth grade is a significant transition for students. “Everything counts” is a commonly used phrase which applies not only to academics, but also to athletics, fine arts, and service.

Teachers, advisors, and guidance staff work with freshmen to continue to develop personal responsibility in all areas of their lives. During Interim Week in the fall, students and advisors focus on intrapersonal relationships, leadership, and class growth, initiate the college planning process, and spend time together outdoors.

Students new to the Upper School have a variety of opportunities to serve their school and their community by working on the campus-wide recycling effort, joining one of many service clubs, and experiencing their first Upper School Service Day in November.
