The Foreign Languages Department
The Department of Foreign Language Department at Athens Academy believes that students gain language and cultural awareness through continual practice and exposure to the target language. At Athens Academy we offer classes in French, Latin, and Spanish from the introductory levels (in middle school) to advanced levels, including AP level and beyond.
At Athens Academy students of the modern languages, French and Spanish, prepare for meaningful, real-world communication. Vocabulary presentation and reinforcement are achieved through activities in reading, writing, listening and speaking. At later levels, students fine tune their language skills through grammatical drills and authentic texts in the foreign language.
Through translation and study of both the vocabulary and structure of Latin, students gain deeper insight into the structure of English and the Romance Languages. Moreover, they gain the tools to comprehend Roman literature and civilization and to apply them to their study of other academic disciplines
