Exchange Programs

China - In the spring of 2009, Athens Academy will send 10 students to the Hangzhou School in China. There they will live with local families and attend classes. To complete the exchange, in August 2009, 10 students from the Hangzhou School will be hosted by Athens Academy families.

Germany- In the fall of 2001, Athens Academy began an exchange with the Anna Schmidt School of Frankfurt, Germany. A group of juniors from that school spent three weeks in Athens, living with host families, studying, and sightseeing. In the summer of 2002, the Anna Schmidt School reciprocated and hosted Athens Academy students.

Challenge 20/20

Sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), Challenge 20/20 is an internet-based program that partners schools in the United States with schools in other countries. They work together and try to create local solutions to one of 20 global problems selected from the book High Noon: Twenty Global Problems and Twenty Years to Solve Them by Jean-Francois Rischard. For the 2008-2009 school year, Athens Academy is paired with the Evangelical Lutheran School of Beit Sahour, Palestine.

Building Bridges – A Fulbright Exchange Program

In 1999, Athens Academy, along with five Georgia public schools, formed bridges with schools in Estonia, the Czech Republic, and Romania. Six Georgia teachers traveled to Estonia for a workshop with 12 Estonian teachers. The Fulbright Foundation provided laptops and software to link the Estonian schools to the Georgia schools, so that they could communicate via email, websites, and teleconferences. Students in the program conducted oral history projects and exchanged videos and books.

In 2001, Athens Academy paired with a school in Pribram, Czech Republic. Students in both schools worked on a project focusing on human rights issues, including housing, the handicapped, and gender discrimination. During the second half of that school year, Irina Nossova, an Estonian exchange student, joined the Athens Academy community.
