Athens Academy Winter Camp 2011


Athens Academy Winter Camp is an exciting opportunity for ALL children in four year old class through sixth grade in the Athens Academy area. Each day will have a different theme with varied activities all relating to the day's theme.

The theme for our first day, Monday, December 19th, is arctic animals. Get out our camouflage clothes so you don't get spotted by a polar bear. If you have any arctic animals at home, you may bring them.

Our second day, the 20th, is Winter Wonderland day and we plan to have a lot of fun. We have been trying to arrange for some ice fishing, but that may not be possible without a lot of cooperation from the weather! You can bring pictures of yourself in any variety of winter activities.

December 21st is devoted to the Land of the Midnight Sun and all it's beauty. Remember, there are only about five hours of daylight in Alaska on December 21st compared to the 20 hours of daylight there on June 21st. We may need some flashlights when the sun is absent for so much of the day, so you might like to bring yours.

The last day of camp, December 22nd is actually the first day of Winter! We will be thinking of jungle bells. Does that bring some exciting images to mind when it is this close to Christmas Eve? Bring your jingle bells on this day!

Activities begin at 9:00 and will include art, drama, music, team sports and games, library, camp store, and the special activity for the day's theme. MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL HAVE SPECIAL ACTIVITIES!

Extended time will be available mornings from 7:40 until 9:00 a.m. and afternoons from 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. There is no extra charge for the morning extended time, but please indicate on the registration form if the camper will be arriving early. The charge for the afternoon session will be $8.00 daily.

Campers will be grouped according to age and will be supervised by well qualified, caring, enthusiastic counselors. The groups will be kept small in order to allow individualized attention.
