Welcome to Spartan Athletics

The Athletic Department is excited about the 2009-10 school year and hope the information and resources on this site are helpful to students, parents, alumni, and fans throughout the year.
Athens Academy has a knowledgeable coaching staff, supportive parents, and dedicated athletes striving for success in all of our athletic programs. We have received the prestigious GHSA Class A Director’s Cup in 2000-01, 2002-03 and 2004-05, which is given annually to the top athletic program in the state.
The following statement has been included in many of our publications over the years, as Athens Academy believes it is an important reminder for coaches, students, and families as they prepare for athletic participation.
"We arrange participation for each athlete appropriate to age, development, ability, and interest. Varsity competition emphasizes winning, but is done in a framework that allows athletes to feel successful by meeting personal performance goals. The sub-varsity level prepares athletes for varsity play while providing as much participation as possible for each team member. So that our athletes receive quality instruction with a realistic opportunity for playing time, the size of teams in some sports is limited. Students "try out" for teams.
Although there is no guarantee that a student will be selected for a specific team, the number and variety of offerings provide many opportunities for each player."If you have questions, concerns, or ideas that will help us improve the athletic experience for each student athlete contact Kevin Petroski, Athletic Director, at kpetroski@athensacademy.org.
With coaches, student athletes, and parents working together, we all look forward to another successful year of Spartan Athletics.
