Academic Eligibility
The eligibility of each student under Athens Academy and Georgia High School Association rules is determined at the beginning of the school year and again at the start of the second semester. The grades used to determine eligibility at the beginning of the school year are the end-of-year grades from the previous year together with any summer work. The grades used to determine eligibility at the beginning of the second semester are the averages for the first semester. The minimum period of ineligibility is one semester.
To be eligible to participate in any given semester, the student:
- must be registered for five units of study, of which at least four are academic units.
- must earn grades of at least 70 or C- in each of five units of study during the previous semester (the summer term is considered part of the second semester).

- must have accumulated four units toward graduation before participating as a tenth grader, 10 units toward graduation before participating as an eleventh grader, and 16 units toward graduation before participating as a twelfth grader.
A student who is ineligible may not practice, play, travel with a team, or perform in any Georgia High School Association competition during the semester of ineligibility.
