Fine Arts
The arts at Athens Academy “seek excellence with honor in the educational and personal experience of each student.” As an integral part of the education of each student, the arts are essential in nurturing creativity, critical thinking and curiosity. The individual student is offered many opportunities to develop a diversity of interests and abilities by participating in the fine and performing arts and cultural programs. Through programs designed to integrate fine arts with academic disciplines, the faculty emphasizes artistic contributions to the development of civilization as a whole. The arts faculty utilizes the rich cultural diversity of the community by inviting guest artists to exhibit their works and perform on campus.
Art
All students at Athens Academy are given the opportunity to explore the world of visual art. Students are taught to express themselves through a variety of media with emphasis on aesthetics, creative thought and production, art history, and criticism. Student artwork and works by professional artists are displayed throughout our campus to help create a stimulating visual environment for all.
Drama
The drama courses at Athens Academy are designed to help students develop the skills necessary to become effective communicators, spontaneous thinkers and positive team contributors. This increased ability in self-expression leads to better interpersonal communication skills. The Theatre Department at Athens Academy works to help our students develop a positive attitude toward the creative process.
Music
Athens Academy offers students in all divisions the opportunity to study music. Pre and Lower School students explore the world of music through singing, playing instruments and composing. Students in grades 2-12 may participate in the string orchestra program. Our band program is open to students in grades 5-12 and students in Upper School may participate in the Jazz Band.
