Jazz Band
The jazz band provides Athens Academy and its students an outlet for talented students who sing or play instruments that are not always included in band or orchestra, as well as band students who are interested in jazz music. The repertoire includes jazz standards, blues, rock, soul, funk, pop, country crossover, and modern jazz styles. Instrumentation includes electric guitar, classic and acoustic guitar, electric bass, banjo, harmonica, drum set, theramin, latin percussion, keyboards, alto and tenor sax, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, French horn, and vocalists.
The jazz band is open to all students grades 9-12, meeting twice weekly and performing at least twice yearly. The winter concert is a “Cabaret Night”; a nightclub atmosphere with dim lights, tables, candlelight, and snacks and beverages. The spring concert is the “Twilight Serenade” which is performed outdoors (weather permitting) in the Media Center amphitheatre.
