Grade and Division Level Projects

Upper School

Each grade adopts an annual service project which is carried out under the direction of the grade level coordinators and the supervision of the grade level advisors. The senior class hosts three American Red Cross Blood drives each year, an Academy tradition since 1995.

The other three grade levels have established the following foci for service: the freshman class project deals with issues related to environmental service including the campus recycling effort, the sophomore class emphasizes service to youth, while the junior class addresses service to adults – including an emphasis on working with senior citizens.

Middle School Service

As with the Upper School, service is an important aspect in the lives of the middle school experience. Students perform numerous service activities throughout the school year. There are daily activities such as cleaning the Tillman Center after lunch and vacuuming and trash pick up at the end of each day. There are also seasonal projects such as the “Coats and Cans” drive, stocking stuffing, toiletry bags, and Relay for Life.

In addition to these yearly projects, students have taken lead roles in drives to help recent Haiti Earthquake and Hurricane Katrina victims. Learning to serve others is important for the development of the whole student at Athens Academy. Middle School students clean their classrooms at the end of each school day and are responsible for the appearance of their hallways and playground areas. Each grade level participates in specific service projects appropriate for their age.
