Service Clubs


There are currently fourteen clubs officially recognized by Athens Academy. Membership is encouraged and open to all Upper School students. Several of these organizations are specifically devoted to service, including Interact, Habitat for Humanity, Media & Technology, and SEEDS.


Habitat for Humanity Activities
  • Construction of Habitat Model of four scale models of a Habitat house
  • Construction of a playhouse for Mr. Snead (fundraising)
  • Presentation of Habitat Model to Gainesville State-Watkinsville’s Habitat chapter
  • Construction of a shed for the Extra Special People Camp in Watkinsville
  • Participation in Hands-on-Athens
  • Annual Donation ($200) to Athens Area Habitat affiliate
  • Annual Tithe ($250) to Habitat International to support building programs in Costa Rica


Interact Activities
  • Operated Oconee Fall Festival parking lot
  • Created YouTube videos for Bethlehem Ministry
  • Provided two scholarships for children to attend St. Bartholomew's in Terrier Rouge, Haiti.
  • Stuffed and shipped 50 shoeboxes to St. Bartholomew's so the children could have Christmas gifts.
  • Worked with the sophomore class to collect musical instruments for children in Haiti.
  • Sold Christmas Candy Grams to raise funds for scholarships.
  • Volunteered at the Athens Homeless Area Shelter during the school year. Interact funded, planned, prepared and served the meal.
  • Rang the Salvation Army bell in December raising $240 for them
  • Worked to set up and clean up at the Oconee County Business Expo in April.
  • Ran three Mothers' Morning Out fund raisers to support Project Pallam.
  • Maintained financial sponsorship of a child in Niger through Plan USA
  • Donations to Salvation Army, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, and American Cancer Society via Relay for Life.
SEEDS Activities
  • Continued with sponsorship of an Athens-Clarke county Adopt-a-Highway.
  • The Vegetarian lunch series was very successfull, bringing in $336.00 which was invested in the garden.
  • The SEEDS environmental film series was a great success for the second season.
  • SEEDS continued the “Garden between the parking lots." The produce goes to the Homeless Shelter each week, contributing to a meal prepared by Academy students.
  • The Nature Trail tree label signs funded by a $500 grant to the Lower School began a new on-campus project for SEEDS. Students built, mounted, and installed 14 tree labels and plan to continue this project by adding additional tree signs next year.
  • Eight SEEDS members took part in the Athens-Clarke County Christmas tree recycling program.
  • SEEDS members joined with other service volunteers from the Academy for our annual Hands on Athens project.
Media & Technology Activities
  • Provided webcasts of varsity football and basketball home games
  • Provided webcasts of Grandparents/Special Friends Day and other fine arts presentations
  • Filmed, produced, and edited Service Day video
  • Held “Data-Match” fundraiser
