Academic Information
Books and Supplies:
Books for grades K3-grade 4 are provided as part of the curriculum. Books for grades 5-12 are ordered by the parents through the school's online bookstore. Details and instructions are communicated each summer.
Summer reading:
To encourage the enjoyment of reading and to establish positive reading habits in and out of school, Athens Academy students and teachers read during summer vacation. Summer reading is an integral part of an Athens Academy education and is required of all Upper and Middle School students. Middle School: Each student will read the two books required for his or her grade and choose at least three novels to read from the recommended list. All grades have guided reading questions to consider as they read.
Upper School: Summer reading for Upper School consists of one or two required books for each grade level, and three from the "Choice Book List." Summer work is also assigned in several Upper School courses; students are assessed for completion and comprehension at the beginning of school.
