The Athens Academy Alumni Association exists to enhance the mission of Athens Academy, a college preparatory school, which seeks “Excellence with Honor.”
In supporting the mission of the school, we the Alumni Association:
- Provide an organizational framework for the activities of alumni.
- Act as liaisons to continuously market Athens Academy.
- Provide the necessary communication between the school and the alumni.
- Select, plan and carry out the events of the Alumni Association.
- Support Athens Academy by participation in annual fund raising.
- Create an atmosphere of spirit and good will among alumni.
Alumni Association Opportunities
Opportunities are planned throughout the year
Duties of members:
President: It shall be the duty of the President to coordinate, plan and preside at all meetings of the Association and to perform such tasks as necessary to promote the efficient conduct of the affairs of the Association. The President shall coordinate all of the activities of the members of the Board and oversee the coordination for the Alumni Annual Fund. The President shall serve on the Nominating Committee. The President shall be responsible for submitting a full accounting of the affairs of the Association to the Board of trustees of Athens Academy.
Vice President: The Vice President shall be responsible for handling the activities of the Association during the absence of the President. The Vice President shall serve on the Nominating Committee.
Past President: Shall serve on the Executive Board and as a member of the Nominating Committee.
Board Members: The members of the Board shall be responsible for handling the activities of the Association as directed by the Board.
Ex Officio, Non-Voting Members of the Board: The Headmaster, Director of Development, and Alumni Coordinator shall advise and give direction to the Board.
Alumni Development: Work on latest campaign structure as implemented by the Long Range Plan. Work with Division chairs.
Division Chairs: The Division Chairs will oversee the Class Representatives in the duties of keeping contact with all members of their respective classes. Help keep Athens Academy informed of their classmates’ current addresses and any news for Class Notes for Accent. Be available to assist the class reps with class reunions and with the Alumni portion of the Annual Fund.
Class Reps: It shall be the duty of each class representative to maintain contact with all members of their respective graduating classes. Class representatives also help to keep Athens Academy informed of their classmates’ current addresses, and any news for the Class Notes section of Accent. Special Events Chair: The Alumni Association sponsors several events throughout the year. The duty of the Special Events Chair is to oversee these events. The events are as follows: Alumni Fall BBQ, Rotating Atlanta/Athens Alumni Party, and the Alumni Luncheon in honor of our current Seniors.
Annual Awards: To encourage participation and “spirit” among the classes, the Alumni Board has instituted two “awards.” The first award will recognize the alumni class with the highest percentage of participation in the Annual Fund Drive. The second is for the Alumni class that has raised the highest dollar amount for the Annual Fund Drive. These awards will be presented at the Annual Alumni Fall BBQ.
