5. Clarke Central 1-0 (1) — The Gladiators won the Classic City Championship, but it wasn’t pretty. Ten penalties for 120 yards, turnovers and general sloppy play drops Clarke Central from the top spot in the power rankings. They have a week off to work out some issues.

6. Commerce 1-0 (8)— A strong rushing attack propelled the Tigers past Banks County Friday night. They’ll be back home against Union County Friday, searching for the program’s 620th all-time win.

7. Cedar Shoals 0-1 (7)— The Jaguars hold down the same spot as the preseason rankings after leading for much of Friday’s Classic City Championship. Their play wasn’t much cleaner than Clarke Central, committing 13 penalties for 103 yards.

8. Winder-Barrow 1-0 (NR) — J.C. Green (17 carries for 184 yards, 4 TD) led the Bulldoggs past Apalachee on Friday and has propelled Winder-Barrow into the top 10, for now. A tough region lie ahead, and they’ll get a home test this week against Eastside.

9. Athens Christian 1-0 (10) — The Eagles scored a convincing win over Walker without their best player. Johne’ss Davis was not cleared to play, but Ben Pethel (19 carries for 187 yards, TD) filled the void admirably.

10. Jackson County 1-0 (NR) — The Panthers stormed back in the second half to beat West Hall and have jumped inside this week’s power rankings.
