Faculty & Staff Honored for 25 Years of Service

Three members of the Athens Academy faculty have been recognized by the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) for their outstanding work in independent schools. Marion Marvel, Jeff Stachura, and Nita Woodruff each received the Distinguished Service Award for having dedicated 25 years of service to independent education. In addition, these three individuals have a combined 85 years as part of the Athens Academy community!
Seventh grade social studies teacher Marion Marvel attended Athens Academy from kindergarten through twelfth grade. After college and with a year of teaching under her belt, Mrs. Marvel returned to the school in 1995 as a Middle School teacher.

Mrs. Woodruff attended Athens Academy from fifth grade through graduation. She began working as the school receptionist in 1994; over the past 25 years Mrs. Woodruff has held a variety of roles including cafeteria coordinator, cheerleading coach, and athletics assistant.

After a decade at The Lovett School, Mr. Stachura joined the Athens Academy Upper School in 2005 as an English teacher. He then took on the role of guidance counselor before assuming his current position as director of the Middle School.

We congratulate and thank these Spartans for their many years of service to independent education!
