Spartans Give Their All in State Playoff Game

The Spartans came to play in the Class A Private State Tournament, and play they did.  As the saying goes, “Leave It All On The Field” and, that they did!  The players and coaches gave it everything they had.  They didn’t hold back, they gave their best effort, they never held back...they fought to the end.  The score may reflect a one run loss, but this team will always be a winner in our hearts.

Pitching:
Jackson Hutton, Will Thomas, and Pratt Ferguson took the mound for the Spartans, each pitching two innings.

Offense:
The Lions put one of their best pitchers on the mound, who had previously thrown a no-hitter.  You could see Hebron’s frustration as the Spartans pounded out 15 hits, 12 runs, 10 RBI’s, 2 doubles, and 6 walks.  They definitely had met their match!

Six Spartans had multiple hit nights and one had 2 doubles!
Palmer Bush:  1/4, 2 runs, 2 RBI’s
Pratt Ferguson:  3/4, 2 RBI’s, run, BB
Henry Smith:  2/4, run, 2 RBI’s, BB
John Ferguson :  2/5, RBI
Sam Johnson: 3/5, 2 RBI’s, 2 doubles
Sam Bush:  2/2, 3 runs, HP
Steven Holder:  2/3, 2 runs, RBI, BB
Will Warner:  2 runs, BB
Boone Presnell: run.

Defense:
Once again, defense was strong... committing only one error.
   * Henry making excellent plays on ground balls in the first and fourth throwing Lions out at         first with “Big John” making sure every throw that came his way was an out
  • Sam J. at Catcher throwing a fire ball to Steven at third to catch a Lion attempting to steal in the third inning
  • Our outfielders Pratt, Asa Drudge, and Will Thomas. making excellent catches in the outfield in the fifth inning. Pratt made back to back outstanding catches, covering almost all of left field!

This was a comeback game that will not soon be forgotten.  Every person attending the game watched quite an amazing display of baseball and would be extremely proud of every Spartan that put on the uniform.

Final Score:  Athens Academy 12, Hebron 13
