Board of Trustees

Elizabeth B. Sanders, 2017-2021

Beth Sanders served as chair of the Board of Trustees from 2017-2021. She has been part of the Athens Academy community for over 25 years. In addition to being an alumni parent, Mrs. Sanders previously served as the Board's vice chair and as chair of the Parent Service Organization. 
Mrs. Sanders is a writer and legislative researcher for Sanders and Associates, a comprehensive government relations and public affairs firm. Previously, she served as the director of state and federal government relations for Oglethorpe Power Corporation, the power generation and transmission company that provides services to many of Georgia’s electric membership corporations. Mrs. Sanders also worked as a legislative assistant for Congressman Charles Hatcher of Georgia and as a member of the SunTrust team in the Major Accounts Marketing Department for BellSouth.
 
Mrs. Sanders, a native of Adel, is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, with a major in Public Relations and a minor in Political Science and Management Science. She is active in many community organizations including the First Baptist Church of Athens, where she serves as a deacon; Interfaith Hospitality Network; and the Athens Garden Club.

She and husband Mark are the parents of Mark, Class of 2011, and Caroline, Class of 2013.
