High School Sports Roundup - Varsity Volleyball - ABH
WINDER-BARROW SWEEPS, ATHENS ACADEMY GOES 3-1:At the 16-team Grayson Rams Rally tournament, Winder-Barrow improved to 24-6 and won the gold bracket championship with a 5-0 day. The Bulldoggs defeated George Walton, Archer, Athens Academy and Tallulah Falls.
The Spartans went 3-1 on the day and improved to 23-4 with victories over Grayson (25-22, 20-25, 15-13), Central Gwinnett (25-3, 25-10) and Centennial (26-24,18-25,15-13). Athens Academy was defeated by Winder-Barrow 23-25, 15-25.
Against Grayson, Ali Rumpel had nine kills and two blocks and Mara Thomas had 22 assists and 10 digs. Against Central Gwinnett, Olivia Nealy had seven kills and one block, Rumpel had six digs and Thomas had 15 assists and seven aces).
Against Centennial, Anna Rutledge had six kills, Nealy had nine digs and six kills and Thomas had 21 assists and 11 digs. Against Winder-Barrow, Rutledge had two blocks, Nealy had seven digs, Rumpel had six digs and Annsley Flack had six digs.
Athens Academy will play Aquinas and George Walton on Tuesday.
