ATHENS ACADEMY 49, PRINCE AVENUE CHRISTIAN 29: At Commerce, the No. 4-seeded Spartans stopped a two-game losing streak at precisely the right time with a victory over the No. 5 seed Wolverines in the first round of the Region 8-A tournament.
Rose Bone’s 24 points led Athens Academy. Meg Williams had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists, Meredith Reynolds had five points, Jaila Salley-Barnett had five assists and Maddy Wicker recorded nine rebounds.
The Spartans (15-10) will face the winner between Hebron Christian and George Walton on Friday in the second round. The Wolverines end the season at 10-12.
