Prep Round Up - ABH

CLASS A: With three state champions, Commerce tallied 159 points and won its seventh consecutive traditional state crown, a prospect that a few days appeared questionable since only nine Tigers qualified for the state meet, compared to the 12 qualified by Trion (second place, 157.5 points), Mt. Pisgah Christian (third place, 122 points) and Holy Innocents’.
State champions included Dawson Legg (113 pounds), who pinned Art Martinez of Holy Innocents’, Jake Frates (182 pounds), who scored a major decision (18-5) over Erik Dodder of Mount Vernon, and Elijah Burns (195 pounds), who pinned Cameo Blankenship of Telfair County.
Also for Commerce, Daniel Nash was third at 106 pounds, Bryson Flint was third at 126 pounds, Brayden Phillips was third at 170 pounds, Josh Frates was third at 220 pounds and Ethan Epps was sixth at 285 pounds.
For Athens Academy (20th place, 26.5 points), Elliott Williamson finished fifth at 160 pounds and Ethan Connelly was sixth at 182 pounds.
For Athens Christian (23rd place, 20 points), Brian Rodriguez finished second at 132 pounds, dropping a major decision (17-7) to Jake Swink of Holy Innocents’.
