Spartans Keep Eagles Grounded

Spartans Keep Eagles Grounded

The Eagles had just come off their first win of the day with a 14-1 victory and were flying high as they got set to play Athens Academy.  The first two innings were a pitcher’s duel with Wyatt England on the mound for the Spartans.

Pratt Ferguson got the huge five run third inning started with a keen eye on a full count walk.  “The Pres” (aka Turner Trapnell) blasted an 0-2 pitch to right field for a single.  Lead-off batter Charlie Kahlstorf singled to Center to load the bases.  A confident Kale Anderson crushed the first pitch he saw to deep Center for a double, scoring Pratt and Turner.  Charlie scored from third as the center fielder made an error, with Kale moving to third.  Palmer Bush doubled on the first pitch scoring Kale.

That inning gave Wyatt the opportunity to pitch a full seven inning game for the win, allowing only one run.  He also had some great help from the defense.  In the second, Wyatt fired a bullet to Kale at third to catch an Eagle trying to steal.  Kale to Palmer to Trent Muir turned a perfect double play in the third.  In the seventh, Henry Smith made a superb catch on a line drive and doubled up the runner throwing to Palmer at second.

The Spartans scored one more in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the 8-1 victory.

Four Spartans experienced multi-hit games.
Charlie Kahlstorf 2/4, RBI
Kale Anderson 2/4, 3 RBI’s
Palmer Bush 2/4, RBI, double
Turner Trapnell 2/3
The ninth hit of the game went to Will Thomas.

Asa Drudge and Palmer Bush each had 2 stolen bases.

Special appreciation to all the parents who traveled to Barnesville for the double header.  The team mothers made sure all the players were well hydrated and fed.  The coaches were amazing with a shout-out to Coach Chuboff driving the bus like a professional, as always.

Final Score:  Stratford Academy 1, Athens Academy 8.
