Spartans Out-duel Trojans

Spartans Out-duel Trojans

Like the Trojan War, the duel was intense, but no Trojan horse necessary, just a seventh inning come-back and a slew of pitchers.

It took the Spartans six pitchers to earn the victory with Blaise Hequembourg entering the game in the bottom of the sixth to throw four pitches for a K, stopping the Trojans’ rally, and picking up the Win on the mound.  Every Spartan played an important role in pulling out this win.

The game went back and forth.  Lamar County was up 4-0 after the third.
Fourth:  Spartans 3, Trojans 4
Fifth:  Spartans 7, Trojans 6
Sixth:  Spartans 7, Trojans 9
Seventh:  Spartans 10, Trojans 9
Spartan Victory!

Three Spartans experienced multi-hit games.
Henry Smith 2/2
Sam Johnson 2/3, 3 RBI’s, double
Pratt Ferguson 3/4, 3 RBIs, including the winning RBI
Charlie Kahlstorf and Kale Anderson singled

Turner Trapnell and Pratt each had stolen bases

10 bases on balls and only 4 strike outs were huge contributing factors to the offense.

Two defensive plays that stand out were Palmer Bush making an excellent play at short and throwing to Trent Muir at first for the out in the third, and Will Thomas making an excellent block behind the plate in the fifth.

It was a hard fought battle with outstanding defensive plays in the seventh inning to seal the victory.

The Spartans will travel to Banks County Tuesday 2/25 for a 5:30 p.m. match-up.

Final Score:  Athens Academy 10, Lamar County 9

Happy Birthday to Coach Chuboff on Monday, 2/24.
