Bush Brothers Stun Redskins

Bush Brothers Stun Redskins

Making his debut as a varsity Spartan, Freshman Sam Bush singled In the bottom of the seventh with Sam Johnson on first.  The Redskins intentionally walked Kale Anderson (who already had two hits on the night) to load the bases in order to pitch to Palmer Bush.  With a 3-1 count, Palmer hit a sky high pop up, which landed perfectly in the infield, sending Trent Muir hustling home for the winning run.  Spartans win 3-2.

It was an extremely cold and blustery night, yet the stands were full with students and family showing their support, which was greatly appreciated.

The infield for the Spartans was simply sensational...
...Wyatt England made unbelievable stretches to get the outs at first and even somersaulted to catch a pop-up!
...Palmer went to his left to catch tricky pop ups in the fifth and the first
...Henry Smith was his amazing self making at least seven plays at shortstop
....Kale Anderson snagged a hard hit ball down the third base line in the fifth

Behind the plate, Ethan Connelly made block after block, Including 2 in the second

The pitchers allowed no earned runs!  Blaise Hequembourg went the first four innings giving up five hits while striking out one and walking one.  Under tremendous pressure, Pratt Ferguson calmly and confidently took the mound in the bottom of the fifth with two outs.  He earned the win going 2 1/3 innings, allowing no runs, 1 hit, striking out three , and walking 2.  Actually, he struck out the side in the seventh!  Extremely impressive for a sophomore.  His brother, Ed, (former amazing shortstop and pitcher for the Spartans) was in the stands cheering him on.

Two Spartans had multiple hits:
Kale Anderson:  2/3, run, INT BB, dble
Palmer Bush:  2/4, 2 RBI’s, dble
Singles by:
Charlie Kahlstorf:  1 hit, run
Turner Trapnell:  1 hit
Sam Bush:  1 hit

The Spartans will travel to Clarke Central on Saturday night to face the Gladiators.

Final Score:  Social Circle 2, Athens Academy 3
