12 K’s, Charlie Hustle, Huge 7th Inning = Victory Over Gladiators

Once Wyatt settled into an awesome groove, there was no stopping him on the mound.  He struck out 11 batters, including striking out the side twice, while only walking one and giving up three runs on five hits.  With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Sam Johnson came to pitch in relief and struck out the only batter he faced.

Down 3-2 going into the seventh, Charlie Hustle (aka Kahlstorf) showcased his amazing speed when he beat out an infield hit and hustled to second on an error.  Kale Anderson reached on an error.  Palmer Bush singled to left field, scoring Charlie.  Henry Smith walked, loading the bases.  Wyatt walked, scoring Kale.  Ethan Connelly ran for Wyatt.  Sam Johnson singled to right driving in Henry and Ethan.  Four runs scored in the top of the seventh.

Three Spartans experienced multi-hit games:
Charlie Kahlstorf 2/4, 2 runs, RBI
Kale Anderson 2/4, run, RBI
Will Thomas 2/4
Palmer, Wyatt, and Sam J. singled

Five Spartans had stolen bases:  Charlie, Kale, Henry, Asa Drudge, and Pratt Ferguson

Turner Trapnell and Henry were both hit by a pitch to reach first.

Defense was outstanding with the only Gladiator runs scoring in the second.  The game started out with a Gladiator driving the ball down the third base line.  Kale snagged the ball and fired to first for the out.  The sixth inning saw Wyatt glove a hard hit ball back to the mound and throw out the runner at first.

The Spartans will host the Gladiators on Monday at 5:30.

Final Score:  Athens Academy 6, Clarke Central 3
