Area basketball stars earn all-region honors - Oconee Enterprise

High school basketball season in the Oconee County area is officially in the books.
The county’s teams all enjoyed high levels of success and finished among the best teams in their regions. That team success was driven by individual hard work. Several of Oconee County’s basketball stars received all-region recognition for their success on the court.
The top individual award went to Prince Avenue Christian School’s girls basketball team’s leading scorer, Karlee Armstrong. The senior was named the Region 8-A-Private all-region player of the year.
Armstrong also received a spot on the all-region first team list. Noelle Hynes and Audrey Vandagriff represented the Lady Wolverines on the all-region second team while Nealie Cook earned an honorable mention to the all-region team.
For the Prince Avenue boys team, James Robach was named to the honorable mention list.
Athens Academy’s girls team, which won Region 8-A-Private, was represented by Jaila Salley-Barnett on the all-region first team list. Additionally, India Sheats and Meredith Reynolds earned all-region second team nods. Adair Marvel was an all-region honorable mention.
The Spartan boys team placed Deion Colzie on the all-region first team. Kymel Williams earned a spot on the all-region second team. Palmer Bush received an honorable mention to the all-region team.
The Oconee County High School girls basketball team was represented on the Region 8-AAA all-region first team by Anna Niemeir. Macey Matthews and Kylie Wilson landed spots on the all-region honorable mention list.
For the Oconee County High School boys team, Zach Oechsle and Eli Nelson received all-region first team selections. Gabe Talkington and Amorie Birston represented the Warriors on the all-region honorable mentions list.
North Oconee High School’s girls basketball team sent Annika Bonds and Maddy Dickens to the Region 8-AAAA all-region second team. In addition, the Lady Titans were represented on the honorable mentions list by Bella Ripley, M.K. Long, Haley Toci, Callie Jackson and Aiyanna Peavy.
The North Oconee High School boys team saw its two seniors, Jace Saxton and Dylan Garrington, receive selections to the all-region first team. Brodie Scott and Justin Byrd were recognized as honorable mentions.
