Lady Titans win fourth area title in a row, ACAD qualifies for state - Oconee Enterprise

For the fourth year in a row, the North Oconee High School girls golf team is an area champion.
The Lady Titans secured their fourth consecutive area title this past Monday at Lane Creek Golf Club in Bishop. They did so despite heavy downpours of rain wrecking the tournament schedule.
Teams only completed six holes during the day. The inclement weather forced a stoppage and never relented, so the area coaches decided that the Lady Titans would receive the Area 3 championship trophy based on the results for that brief amount of action.
North Oconee was represented at the tournament by Mia Vogel, Abigail Hill, Leah Anderson, Camryn Wright, Madi Chappell and Sarah Fryman.
The Lady Titans advanced into the Class AAAA state tournament field.

The same goes for the girls golf team at Athens Academy.
Athens Academy’s area tournament was held last week and the Lady Spartans found themselves near the top of the leader board.
The duo of Meredith Bennett and Ally Buchanan placed second in the tournament. Buchanan shot a 77 while Bennett shot an 81.
Athens Academy’s boys team fell just shy of state tournament qualification at the area meet.
John Manuel Newland shot a 74. Newland will compete as an individual in the upcoming state tournament.
The other Spartans who competed at the area competition included George Barkley (78), James Purcell (86), James Chandler (87), William Leach (92) and J.D. Williams (96).
