A look back at state track: Here are the Athens-area gold medal winners from the weekend

Athens-area track and field teams provided an exciting and successful weekend at state meets around the state.
From Rome, Albany, Powder Springs and Columbus, area teams competed at the GHSA state meets in respective classifications, and several came back toward Athens with individual and team state championships.
Here is a look at who won a state title around the Athens area:

Class A Division I

Athens Christian's girls won the state title with 62 points followed by Oglethorpe County (56). Prince Avenue's girls (39 points) finished sixth while Commerce's girls (30 points) placed ninth. Athens Christian's boys (60 points) placed second to Mount Pisgah Christian (70), Oglethorpe boys (51.5) placed fifth, Prince Avenue's boys (35.5 points) ninth and Commerce's boys (26 points) 10th. Prince Avenue Christian

Audrey Vandagriff, 100 meters (12.13), 200 meters (24.98)

Class 2A

Athens Academy's boys won their first state championship with 89.50 points, three more than second-place Landmark Christian. The Spartans' girls finished second, 3 1/2 points behind first-place Landmark Christian.

Oconee County's boys (58.5 points) placed second to Sandy Creek (104 points) while the Warriors' girls (35.5 points) finished sixth.

Class 4A

North Oconee's girls placed seventh and had runner up finishes from Gabby Nguyen in the pole vault and Ansleigh Prell, Ava Caldwell, Emily Smith and Laura Francis Willis in the 4x800 relay.
There were no Athens-area individual champions in the classification.

Class 5A

Clarke Central's boys (29 points) tied for sixth with Greater Atlanta Christian while Jefferson's boys (19 points) tied for 11th. Jefferson's girls (27 points) tied for seventh.

Apalachee's girls (16 points) placed 17th while Jackson County's girls (6 points) tied for 27th.
