Cross Country winners, softball stars, see Athens area’s top performances from the past week - ABH

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Max Carlson, Beck Wolf-Hardy, Clarke Central – At the Region 8-5A championships on Wednesday in Helen, Carlson finished second among 53 runners in 16:43 and Wolf-Hardy finished third in 17:29 as the Gladiators won the region title.

Brian Gaddy, Ryan Kehoe, Christopher Parado-Rubio, Winder-Barrow – At the Region 8-6A championships at Winder, Gaddy finished fifth among 42 runners in 16:52.30, Kehoe finished sixth in 16:52.90 and Parada-Rubio finished seventh in 16:56 as the Bulldoggs won the region championship.

Brandon Martin, Commerce – At the Region 8-A Public championships on Saturday at Social Circle, Martin finished first among 38 runners in 16:09 as the Tigers won the region title.

Luke McGarity, Kyle Frankel, Rainy Thompkins, Clay Frost, Oglethorpe County – At the Region 4-2A championships on Tuesday in Lexington, McGarity finished first among 39 runners in 18:09, Frankel finished third in 19:09.52, Thompkins was fourth in 19:09.55 and Frost finished fifth in 19:34 as the Patriots won the region crown.

Jackson Scruggs, Lewis Scruggs, Athens Academy – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Jackson Scruggs finished second among 40 runners in 17:21 and Lewis Scruggs finished fifth in 17:47 as the Spartans won the region title.

Nathan Smith, Athens Christian – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Smith finished third among 40 runners in 17:25 as the Eagles came in second place.

Jack Stansell, Scot Seuser, Oconee County – At the Region 8-3A championships Friday at Jefferson, Stansell finished first among 41 runners in 16:32 and Seuser finished fourth in 16:57 as the Warriors won the region championship.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Paden Bell, Ermay Vazquez, Commerce – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Saturday at Social Circle, Bell finished first among 23 runners in 20:52 and Vazquez finished second in 22:20 as the Tigers came in second place.

Lena Cook, Samantha Brodrick, Clarke Central – At the Region 8-5A championships on Wednesday in Helen, Cook finished first among 46 runners in 21:12 and Brodrick finished second in 21:16 as the Gladiators finished fourth.

Sarah Harrison, Davis McLanahan, Athens Academy – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Harrison finished first among 39 runners in 19:55 and McLanahan finished second in 20:55 as the Spartans won the region title.

Molly Meeks, Sydney Brodrick, Sydney Matthews, Oconee County – At the Region 8-3A championships Friday in Jefferson, Meeks finished first among 35 runners in 20:15, Brodrick finished second in 20:39 and Matthew was third in 20:40 as the Warriors won the region title with 19 points.

Keren Palma, Athens Christian – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Palma finished fifth among 39 runners in 21:27 as the Eagles came in fourth place overall.

Matilee Rogers, Winder-Barrow – At the Region 8-6A championships in Winder, Rogers finished second among 30 runners in 20:43.
Ella Stoudenmire, Lizzie Wadsworth, Katie Wadsworth, Maddie Williams, Oglethorpe County – At the Region 4-2A championships at Lexington, Stoudenmire finished first among 23 runners in 21:16, Lizzie Wadsworth finished second in 21:27, Katie Wadsworth finished third in 23:19 and Williams finished fourth in 24:12 as the Patriots won the region title with 16 points.

VOLLEYBALL
JoJo Smith, Grace Smith, Annabelle Cox, Jefferson – In Jefferson’s 3-1 victory Tuesday over Columbus in the third round of the Class 4A state tournament, JoJo Smith had 15 kills, Grace Smith had 30 assists and 10 kills and Cox had four service points and three aces as the Dragons advanced to the state semifinals.

Peyton Wheeler, Olivia Nealy, Ali Rumpel, Mara Thomas, Athens Academy – In Athens Academy’s 3-2 victory Wednesday over Trinity Christian in the third round of the Class A Private state tournament, Wheeler had 17 kills and 27 digs, Nealy had 13 kills and 27 digs, Rumpel had 10 kills, five blocks and 14 digs and Thomas as 32 digs and 44 assists as the Spartans advanced to the state semifinals.

Drew Beedle, Ali Nabulsi, Athens Christian – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Beedle finished sixth among 40 runners in 17:54 and Nabulsi finished seventh in 18:02.84 as the Eagles came in second place.

Will DeLoach, Robbie Dillon, Athens Academy – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, DeLoach finished eighth among 40 runners in 18:02.90 and Dillon was ninth in 18:13 as the Spartans won the region championship.

Evan Gates, Isael Guerra-Baca, East Jackson – At the Region 8-3A championships on Friday at Jefferson, Gates finished eighth among 41 runners in 17:51 and Guerra-Baca finished ninth in 17:58 as the Eagles came in third place.
Daniel Laird, Winder-Barrow – At the Region 8-6A championships Monday at Winder, Laird finished 10th among 42 runners in 17:35 as the Bulldoggs won the region championship.

J.J. Morris, Josh Zelaya, Commerce – At the Region 8-A Public championships on Saturday at Social Circle, Morris finished sixth among 38 runners in 17:51 and Zelaya finished ninth in 18:14 as the Tigers won the region title.

Solomon Nackaski, Jace Porter-Sims, Clarke Central – At the Region 8-5A championships on Wednesday in Helen, Carlson finished 10th among 53 runners in 18:24 and Porter-Sims finished 12th in 18:32.

Peter Sligh, Andrew Guthrie, Oconee County – At the Region 8-3A championships on Friday at Jefferson, Sligh finished sixth among 41 runners in 17:29 and Guthrie finished seventh in 17:49 as the Warriors won the region championship.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Abigail Cabaniss, Athens Christian – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Cabaniss finished seventh among 39 runners in 21:56 as the Eagles finished fourth.

Elizabeth Coleman, Prince Avenue Christian – At the Region 8-3A championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Coleman finished sixth among 39 runners in 21:40 as the Wolverines finished second.

Jayda Jones, Emily Graham, Oglethorpe County – At the Region 4-2A championships on Tuesday at Lexington, Jones finished seventh among 23 runners in 25:31 and Graham finished ninth in 28:25 as the Patriots won the region title with 16 points.

Kensley McConnell, Emma Champer, Charli Matthews, Oconee County – At the Region 8-3A championships on Friday at Jefferson, McConnell finished sixth among 35 runners in 21:25, Champer finished seventh in 21:44 and Matthews came in 10th place in 22:26 as the Warriors won the region title with 19 points.

Lisset Miranda, East Jackson – At the Region 8-3A championships on Friday at Jefferson, Miranda finished ninth among 35 runners in 22:23 as the Eagles came in second place.

Lucy Waugh, Nathalie Lavender, Emily Coggins, Athens Academy – At the Region 8-A Private championships on Friday at Athens Academy, Waugh finished eighth among 39 runners in 21:56, Lavender finished eighth in 21:14 and Coggins was 10th in 22:25 as the Spartans won the region crown.
