WRESTLING
CLASS A: At Commerce, the Tigers touted 13 wrestlers advancing to sectionals with six weight-division champions as they won the Area 6-A championship for the 10th consecutive year.
Daniel Nash (106 pounds), Dawson Legg (113 pounds), Bryson Flint (126 pounds), Michael Sherman (138 pounds), Jake Frates (182 pounds) and Elijah Burns (195 pounds) all finished first in their respective weight classes.
Runners-up included Caleb Lovin (120 pounds), Brayden Phillips (170 pounds) and Josh Frates (220 pounds). Landon Worley (132 pounds), Logan Sherman (152 pounds), Lambdon Hardy (160 pounds) and Ethan Epps (285 pounds) all finished in third place.
Athens Academy qualified six wrestlers, including Elliott Williamson (second place, 160 pounds), Ethan Connelly (third place, 182 pounds), Steven Holder (third place, 170 pounds), Jarad Faulkner (third place, 138 pounds), Michael Cashen (fourth place, 126 pounds) and Josh Forsythe (fourth place, 195 pounds).
Athens Christian had six wrestlers qualify, including Brian Rodriguez, who recorded three pins and won the 132-pound division. Other qualifiers included Eli Vaughn (fourth place, 106 pounds), Josiah Staley (second place, 145 pounds), Ali Nabulsi (second place, 152 pounds) and Joseph Ulrich (fourth place, 182 pounds).
Commerce, Athens Academy and Athens Christian will compete at the Class A East section Friday and Saturday at Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove.
