Athens Academy Varsity Vaseball @ Prince Avenue

Total Team Effort Leads Spartans To Victory Over the Wolverines

It was a well oiled green machine that traveled to Prince Avenue and left with a huge victory over their cross town rivals. The Wolverines put their two pitching aces on the mound, but the Spartans were unstoppable as they took their third region victory of the season.

Wyatt England pitched the first 3 1/3 innings for the Win with Charlie King and Jack Thomas in relief. Jack picked up the save facing 6 batters in two innings, striking out three. Coach Chuboff and Coach Kane knew the perfect time to bring in each new pitcher. Coaching was definitely at its best for the Spartans.

A three run first inning was huge for the Spartans as Wyatt did not allow a run until the fourth. The Spartans scored twice in the third and once In the sixth on incredible base running by Ethan Connelly.

Key at Bats:
Three earned runs in the first RBI’s by: Jack White, Jack Thomas, and Wyatt England in the first Wyatt England and Jackson Reynolds in the third

Key Stats:
Charlie Kahlstorf ...continued his amazing hitting with a single in the sixth
Avi Patel 2/3
Jack Thomas 1/3, dble, run, RBI
Wyatt England 1/4, 2 RBI’s
Palmer Bush 1/3, 2 runs
Jack White 1/3, 2 runs, RBI
Jackson Reynolds 1/2, RBI
Ethan Connelly 1 run
No errors

Game Changers:
3 runs in the first Charlie King at third base...catching a “fireball” in the second to throw a Wolverine out and then duplicating it in the third to throw another Wolverine out at first
Jackson Reynolds once again blocking everything that came his way at the plate
An incredible double play in the second...1-4-2...Wyatt to Avi to Jackson
Wyatt picking off a Wolverine at first throwing to Jack Thomas Jackson to Avi in the sixth to catch a Wolverine stealing (you don’t steal against Jackson)
And, perhaps my two favorites: (both in the sixth)
... Ethan Connelly (coming into run for Charlie King) steals second, hustles to third on a wild pitch, and then scores the sixth run for the Spartans by stealing home!
...Henry Trapnell with a runner on base, two outs, runs down what looks like a Game Changer for the Wolverines, but not with Henry in Center...third out of the inning! The whole dugout unanimously yells “GameChanger!” and it was
