This week’s top high school performances in the Athens area - ABH

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Max Carlson, Beck Wolf-Hardy, Clarke Central – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Carlson finished fourth among 49 runners in 17:28 and Wolf-Hardy finished fifth in 17:36.

Parker Houck, Prince Avenue Christian – In a four-team meet held Saturday at Athens Academy, Houck finished third among 45 runners in 17:29.

Davis Potts, North Oconee – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Potts finished second among 49 runners in 16:34.

Jackson Scruggs, Lewis Scruggs, Robbie Dillon, Athens Academy – At a four-team meet Saturday at Athens Academy, Jackson Scruggs finished second among 45 runners in 17:09, Lewis Scruggs finished fourth in 17:29 and Dillon finished fifth in 18:08.

Nathan Smith, Athens Christian – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Smith finished sixth among 49 runners in 17:39. On Thursday, Smith finished second among 96 runners in 17:58 at the Kent Kramer Classic at Athens Christian.

Jack Stansell, Scott Seuser, Oconee County – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Stansell finished first among 49 runners in 16:26 and Seuser finished third in 17:18.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Ava Caldwell, North Oconee – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Caldwell finished first among 34 runners in 19:53.
Sarah Harrison, Athens Academy – At the Clarke-Oconee Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Harrison finished sixth among 34 runners in 21:13. In a four-team meet held Saturday at Athens Academy, Harrison finished first among 41 runners in 19:55.

Molly Meeks, Phoebe Brodrick, Sydney Matthews, Kensley McConnell, Oconee County – At the Clarke-Ocone Championships on Tuesday in Bogart, Meeks finished second among 34 runners in 20:31, Brodrick finished third in 20:36, Matthews was fourth in 20:38 and McConnell was fifth in 21:11.

Matilee Rogers, Winder-Barrow – At the Best of Barrow meet on Monday, Rogers finished first among 20 runners in 20:49.

SOFTBALL

Ava Moon, Kate Newberry Oconee County – In Oconee County’s 3-1 victory Wednesday over Franklin County (which also gave the Warriors the Region 8-3A title), Moon pitched a complete-game four-hitter with one walk and two strikeouts. In Wednesday’s 2-1 victory over Stephens County, Newberry pitched a complete-game four-hitter with two strikeouts and no walks.

Anna Taylor, Commerce – In Commerce’s victories over Peachtree Ridge and George Walton, Taylor was 4-for-7 (.571) with one run and two RBIs.

Bailey Bowen, Caroline Branch, Casey Holloway, Maddie Johnson, North Oconee – In North Oconee’s victories over East Hall and Morgan County, Bowen had three hits (including a double) and two RBIs, Branch had three hits (including a double and a home run) and one RBI, Holloway pitched seven innings against Morgan County with one earned run and three strikeouts (and had a double and three RBIs) and Johnson pitched five scoreless innings against East Hall with two hits and six strikeouts (and had two hits and one RBI for the week).
Emma Strickland, Madison County – In Madison County’s 5-3 victory over Jefferson on Monday, Strickland hit a game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning and she pitched all nine innings with two hits, no earned runs, two walks and 14 strikeouts.

Kam Caldwell, Karlee Armstrong, Audrey Vandagriff, Madi Gillespie, Prince Avenue Christian – In Prince Avenue Christian’s 7-2 victory Thursday over Banks County, Caldwell had three hits (including a home run and a double) and one RBI, Armstrong had two hits (including a home run) and four RBIs, Vandagriff had two hits (including a double and a home run) and one RBI and Gillespie was the winning pitcher with six hits, two earned runs and three strikeouts in seven innings.

VOLLEYBALL
 
Emma Greene, Adi Kay Carter, Abi Shannon, Lanie Bauer, Westminster Christian – In this week’s state playoffs, Westminster Christian defeated New Creation and lost to Calvary Christian as Green had eight kills and three aces and Carter had five kills and three aces against New Creation and Greene had six kills and two aces, Shannon had five kills and Bauer had four kills and one ace against Calvary Christian.

Anna Greer Vandagriff, Kelsey Cascella, Prince Avenue Christian – In Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Loganville Christian, Vandagriff had 17 kills, seven digs and two aces and Cascella recorded 23 assists and three aces.

Mara Thomas, Peyton Wheeler, Ali Rumpel, Athens Academy – In Thursday’s 3-0 victory over Prince Avenue Christian, Thomas had one kills, five aces, 15 service points, 18 digs and 30 assists, Wheeler had six kills, four aces, 11 service points and 13 digs and Rumpel had 11 kills, 10 service points, 16 digs and two blocks.

Grace Wenrich, Brinley Bartlett, Christiana Hines, Oconee County – in Oconee County’s 3-0 victory over Hart County Saturday for the Region 8-3A championship, Wenrich had 32 assists, nine digs and two blocks, Bartlett had 13 kills and three blocks and Hines had 17 digs.

Drew Auslander, Monsignor Donovan – At the Kent Kramer Classic on Thursday at Athens Christian, Auslander finished ninth among 19 runners in 19:17.

Drew Beedle, Ali Nabulsi, Athens Christian – At the Kent Kramer Classic on Thursday at Athens Christian, Beedle finished fifth among 96 runners in 18:54 and Nabulsi finished sixth in 19:00.

Brian Gaddy, Christopher Parada-Rubio, Ryan Kehoe, Daniel Laird, Winder-Barrow – At the Best of Barrow meet held Monday in Bethlehem, Gaddy finished first among 35 runners in 17:39.12, Parada-Rubio finished second in 17:39.28, Kehoe was third in 18:19 and Laird was fifth in 18:26.

Josh Frias Ramirez, Brice Branton, Jackson County – At the Harrier Harvest at Tallulah Falls, Ramirez finished eighth among 60 runners in 22:13.28 and Branton finished 10th in 22:13.83.

Austin Sigman, Apalachee – At the Best of Barrow meet held Monday in Bethlehem, Sigman finished fourth among 45 runners in 18:24.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Averie Akin, Katie Harper, Apalachee – At the Best of Barrow meet on Monday in Bethlehem, Akin finished second among 20 runners in 21:32 and Harper finished third in 23:49.

Paden Bell, Commerce – At the Harrier Harvest on Tuesday at Tallulah Falls, Bell finished fourth among 84 runners in 22:35.

Keren Palma, Abigail Cabaniss, Sarah Beth Townsend, Athens Christian – At the Kent Kramer Classic on Thursday at Athens Christian, Palma finished first among 47 runners in 22:06, Cabaniss finished third in 23:40 and Townsend finished seventh in 25:11.

Davis McLanahan, Clara Jane Williams, Kate Kleiber, Athens Academy – At a four-team meet held Saturday at Athens Academy, McLanahan finished second among 41 runners in 21:18, Williams finished fourth in 21:33 and Kleiber finished fifth in 21:45.

VOLLEYBALL

Anne McKenzie Haugabook, Ivy Baugher, Bailey Bartlett, Braeden Koch, Oconee County – In Oconee County’s 3-0 victory over Hart County Saturday for the Region 8-3A championship, Haugabook had 10 kills and three aces, Baugher had six kills and two blocks and Koch had five kills and three aces.
