Athens Academy Announces Valedictorian & Salutatorian
Athens Academy is pleased to announce Andrew Holt Leach, Jr., and Zainub R. Ali as the valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, for the Class of 2019. This fall, Holt will attend the Georgia Institute of Technology, and Zainub will attend the University of Georgia as a CURO Honors Scholar. They will graduate alongside their 77 classmates on Sunday, May 19, at the Classic Center.
Holt is a National Merit Commended Student, Mock Trial club president and lead attorney, a member of both the Cum Laude and National Honor Societies, founder of the school’s Global Community club, and the STAR Student for Athens Academy. He is an active member of the Athens Academy theatre community, performing in three one-act plays and two spring plays. Holt is also a co-lead programmer of the Sparbots FTC Robotics team, having participated with the team for the past three years. Holt will attend Georgia Tech this fall.
Zainub has served as both president and vice-president of the Student Body, is a member of both the Cum Laude and National Honor Societies, and has held leadership roles in the Interact Club, Watson Brown Junior Board, and Girls’ Club. She participated in the Governor’s Honors Program, UGA’s Young Dawgs Internship Program, the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminar, and the Kundiman Youth Leadership Intensive in New York City. Zainub will attend UGA as a CURO Honors Scholar.
