Graham Blanks, Athens Academy – The junior, who was named the Banner-Herald’s Boys Cross Country Runner in the fall, won the 3,200 meters (9 minutes, 13 seconds) and finished second in the 1,600 meters (4:20) at the Class A Private state championships, where the Spartans finished second among 30 teams. During the season, he had five first-place finishes in the 3,200, one in the 1,600 (4:22) and one in the 800 (2:10). In the fall, he won the state individual cross country championship and won five of the seven races where he competed.
Deion Colzie, Athens Academy – Finished second in the high jump (6 feet, 4 inches), eighth in the 400 meters (52.20 seconds) and ran on the second-place 400-meter relay team and the third-place 1,600-meter relay team at the Class A Private state championships as the Spartans finished second among 30 teams. The sophomore won the Region 8-A title and the Athens City-Area Championship in the high jump, both with leaps of 6-2. His personal best in the event was 6-7, which he recorded in a quad meet in March and he also had a personal-best 19-1 mark in the long jump at the Region 8-A championships.
Len’Neth Whitehead, Athens Academy – A Division I football prospect won the shot put (66 feet, 4.5 inches, more than 14 feet farther than his closest opponent) and finished second in the discus (160-3) at the Class A Private state championships, where the Spartans finished second among 30 teams. During the season, the junior won both shot put events he competed in and had six first-place finishes in the discus. He set a personal-best discus throw of 161-10.5 at the Georgia High School Meet of Champions in mid-May.
