BOYS BASKETBALL

ATHENS ACADEMY 60, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 43: At Athens Academy, the Spartans won their first game of the season and the first game of Mike Saliva’s tenure as head coach.
Wyatt Smith had a double-double of 15 points (all on 3-pointers) and 12 rebounds to go with six assists for Athens Academy. Deion Colzie and Hugh Laughlin scored nine points apiece.
The Spartans (1-1) were set to host George Walton on Saturday and will play at King’s Ridge Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 27. The Eagles were set to play Commerce on Saturday and will host Athens Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
 
ATHENS ACADEMY 55, ATHENS CHRISTIAN 15: At Athens Academy, the Spartans improved to 4-6 with a decisive victory over the Eagles.
Rose Bone led Athens Academy with 11 points. Meredith Reynolds scored eight points. Meg Williams and Robie Lucas added seven points each and Jaila Salley-Barnett had six points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Spartans will play at 7 p.m. Friday against Our Lady of Mercy in the St. Pius X Holiday Tournament. Athens Christian (0-7) was set to play Commerce on Saturday and will host Athens Academy at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

COMMERCE 44, ATHENS ACADEMY 35: At Athens Academy, the Tigers won their sixth game in a row and improved to 8-1 as the Spartans lost their third consecutive game and fell to 3-6.
Bryanna Sanders scored a game-high 19 points to lead Commerce. Lauren Massey chipped in nine points and Carson Hobbs and Grace Hobbs added five points each.
For Athens Academy, Meredith Reynolds and Jaila Salley-Barnett scored nine points each.
The Tigers were set to play Prince Avenue Christian on Friday and Athens Christian on Saturday. Athens Academy was set to play Athens Christian on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

COMMERCE 58, ATHENS ACADEMY 54: At Athens Academy, the Tigers slipped by the Spartans in their season opener and in their first game with new coach Michael Salvia.
Dominic Ricci led Commerce (6-3) with 18 points and Jackson Morris added 14 points.
Deion Colzie scored a game-high 32 points for Athens Academy (0-1).
The Tigers were set to play Prince Avenue Christian on Friday and Athens Christian on Saturday. The Spartans were set to host Athens Christian on Friday and George Walton on Saturday.
