Deshona Gaither, Jefferson – The junior averaged 14.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game as the Dragons won the Region 8-4A championship and reached the Class 4A state quarterfinals.
Noelle Hynes, Prince Avenue Christian – The junior averaged 11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game and was named second-team All-Region 8-A Private.
Skylar Lattimore, Cedar Shoals – The senior shot 44% from the field and averaged 12 points and nine rebounds per game for the Jaguars, who made a run to the Class 4A semifinals.
Maggie Mullis, Commerce – The senior point guard averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 assists per game for the Tigers, who advanced to the Class A Public semifinals. A second-team All-Region 8-A Public selection.
Jaila Salley-Barnett, Athens Academy – The junior led the Spartans in points (14.5) and assists (four) per game and also pulled down five rebounds per outing. She was named first-team All-Region 8-A Private.
Bryanna Sanders, Commerce – The senior guard averaged 10.5 points and scored her 1,000th career point for the Tigers, who advanced to the Class A Public semifinals this season. She was also named All-Region 8-A Public.
SPECIAL RECOGNITION: Kayla McPherson, Madison County – The two-time Athens Banner-Herald/OnlineAthens.com Girls Basketball Player of the Year in 2019 and 2020 averaged 36 points per game as a junior but missed the 2021 season with a knee injury. Nevertheless, she signed a national letter of intent to play collegiately at North Carolina and was named a McDonald’s All-American.
