Spartans Lose Close, Hard Fought Game to Athens Christian

Despite outhitting the Eagles, the Spartans could not seem to get the key hit at the right time, leaving 12 players on base.  They definitely competed at a high level and came prepared to play.  Henry Smith pitched 21 first pitch strikes.  The Offense had 4 doubles and a triple.  They came close to a home run when Will Thomas smashed a ball to deep center, but the wind kept it from going over.  Sam Johnson and Henry had four quality at bats each.  8 of the 9 starters had hits...with Henry having a perfect night going 3/3, “Big John” Ferguson 2/3, and Sam Bush 2/3.  The defense was solid and made some incredible plays.
* Henry:  5 2/3 innings, 6 runs, 9 hits, 3 K’s, 3 BB
* Pratt Ferguson: 1/3 inning, 1 hit
Asa Drudge:  1/4, run                         Pratt:  1/4
Henry:  3/3, run, BB                           John:  2/3, double
Steven Holder:  run                            Sam J:  1/4, run, RBI, double
Will T: 1/2, double                               Will Warner:  1/4
Sam B:  2/3, RBI, double, triple         Will Morris: BB
* Asa making one of his signature catches to right center in the fourth
* Steven Holder catching back to back hot shots to the hot corner and throwing the    runner out in the fourth
* NO stolen bases
* Eagle base runner caught stealing second...Sam J. To Will Morris
A huge welcome to Will Divers as a coach.  Will was a former student, Varsity Baseball player and personally am thrilled to have him in the dugout and helping the Varsity Spartans.
Kudos to the umpiring crew that called to apologize for missing the substitution call.
How hot was it in the dugout?  It was so hot a stainless steel water bottle filled with ice water burned your hand when picking it up!
Due to the forecast, the Spartans will play a double header Thursday at home beginning at 5:00 pm.
Final Score:  Athens Academy 4, Athens Christian School 6
