Coach James Banks is a basketball legend, helping to carry the University of Georgia men's basketball team to the Final Four in 1983, and playing eleven seasons of professional basketball in Europe. He returned to Athens in 1999 to teach physical education and coach varsity basketball at Athens Academy. We asked him five questions as part of the Spartan Spotlight:

The Oakland A's, the Lakers, and the Celtics
If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Monaco in the south of France because it's so beautiful and calm there, and the fresh seafood--ahhhhhhhh!!
Which Athens Academy alum athlete did you admire and enjoy watching compete and why?
There are many, but I would have to say McKay Matthews '09. He played every play as hard as anyone and his attitude was great--he was a true Spartan.
What is one fact about yourself that you are proud of and that most people do not know about you?
Athens Academy is an independent, co-educational school for students in K3 through 12th grade, located on a beautiful 152-acre campus in Northeast Georgia. For over 50 years, Athens Academy has pursued its mission of Excellence with Honor through academics, athletics, fine arts, and service and leadership.
