Spartan Spotlight: Coach Sarah Pittard

Coach Sarah Pittard teaches physical education to students from pre-first grade through Middle School in addition to coaching varsity and middle school cheerleading and tennis. Originally from Braselton, Georgia, Coach Pittard earned her bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Georgia. During her college years, she also coached gymnastics and cheerleading. We asked her five questions as part of the Spartan Spotlight:

What do you consider to be unique about Athens Academy?
I think our students are wonderful and very special to teach. I love that they have many opportunities to get involved in the school and play multiple sports throughout the year. Our campus is beautiful and makes me feel happy each day I arrive at school!

What led you to coaching?
I was a gymnast growing up and absolutely loved my coaches. They inspired and pushed me to be the person I am today. I always hoped I could have that impact on the athletes I would one day coach. I wanted to instill a confidence in each young person through hard work, joy of practicing, and accomplishment.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy running, yoga, walking my dog Sadie, playing tennis, baking, shopping, traveling, and spending time with family and friends!

Who was your favorite athlete growing up?
Olympic gymnast Dominique Moceanu

What is your favorite book?
The Noticer by Andy Andrews
