Musicians' Clothes Closet Project: Please help!

As part of her Girl Scout Gold Award project, freshman Berdie Bridges is collecting gently used orchestra and band concert attire this spring in order to create a free closet of performance clothes for students next fall.
How To Donate: Bring your clean, gently used concert clothes (and shoes) to the PSO uniform donation bins in the Lower and Middle School offices, the Chambers Center and the Spartan Center. These clothes are only worn twice a year, and they are a great example of when new clothes don’t need to be bought, and old ones don’t need to be thrown away! Click the "Read more" link to learn more about Berdie's project.
Why It Matters:
  • The release of carbon into the atmosphere is raising Earth’s temperature every year! This causes irreparable damage to the climate.
  • It has been 48 years since the Earth has had a colder than average year. Higher temperatures increase the risk of heat related illnesses, destroy habitats, and make food and water scarce. In 2024, 45.8 million people were displaced by weather related changes made worse by climate change.
  • Discarded clothing is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions, as 85% of textiles are thrown away, and end up in landfills or are burned. As the clothes decompose, they release carbon dioxide and methane, and when they are burned, the carbon in the fabric is released.
  • 50% of clothing in thrift stores has never been worn or has only been worn once. Buy used clothes to give them a second life, and donate your old or outgrown clothes so they can be worn again. This is an easy way to make sure they won’t contribute to the carbon release.
Below are some places you can donate clothes other than your concert attire:

4070 Lexington Rd, Athens, GA 30606
3898 Atlanta Hwy, Bogart Ga, 30622
What: Sells second hand clothing, place to bring donations

Project Safe
995 Hawthorne Ave, Athens, Ga 30606

American Thrift Stores:
