ATHENS ACADEMY 3, GALLOWAY 0: At Athens Academy, the Spartans swept singles play to defeat Galloway in the first round of the Class A Private state tournament.
At No. 1 singles, Hatton Abernathy won 6-0, 6-0, John Chester won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 and Jack Byrnes won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
Athens Academy will host the winner between Savannah Country Day and Mount Paran in the second round next week.
