Spartans Drop Home Opener

The MS boys soccer team lost its home opener to a quick and talented Malcom Bridge team. Malcom Bridge capitalized on a couple of defensive mistakes to score two goals in quick succession early in the first half.

The Spartans did not quit and kept the game competitive despite being winded. James Williams scored the lone goal for Athens Academy late in the second half. Honorable mention goes to Weston Rupert for making a number of diving saves, including stopping a one-on-one breakaway.

On a positive note, the Spartans have upgraded their squad. Last year when the two teams met, Malcom Bridge won 10-0. The coaches were pleased with the team's effort and look forward to a rematch to what might be their stiffest competition this year.
