Spartans win first region series - Oconee Enterprise
Athens Academy baseball scored its first region series victory last week.
The Spartans swept Loganville Christian Academy across last Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, improving their Region 8-A-Private record to 4-2.
In game one, the Spartans topped the Lions 15-1.
Palmer Bush finished the game 2-for-5 with three runs batted in. Sam Johnson went 2-for-3 and also recorded three RBIs.
Will Warner batted 2-for-2 with a run driven in. Asa Drudge had two RBIs on 1-for-2 batting.
Henry Smith went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, too. John Ferguson walked twice and Blaise Hequembourg had a walk and RBI to his credit.
Pratt Ferguson went 1-4 and Will Thomas went 1-for-1. Jackson Hutton went 1-for-2 on the day, as did Taylor Muir. Sam Bush and Will Morris each scored two runs. Steven Holder stole two bases during the game, increasing his season total to a team-high eight swiped bags.
Smith started on the mound and earned the win. Pratt Ferguson and Blaise Hequembourg tossed two inning in relief.
The Spartans’ offense kept rolling in game two, beating Loganville Christian 16-3.
John Ferguson went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Pratt Ferguson was 2-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Thomas drove in three runs and went 1-for-1. Sam Bush went 1-for-1, too, and drove in two runs.
Palmer Bush was 2-for-4 and Johnson went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Warner drove in a pair of runs on 1-for-2 batting as did Hutton. Holder went 1-for-2 and brought home a run.
Athens Academy completed the series sweep of Loganville Christian with a 15-9 effort in game three.
Smith batted 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Palmer Bush went 2-for-2 with an RBI to his credit.
Warner went 2-for-4. So did Sam Bush, who also notched three RBIs. John Ferguson was 2-for-4 as well and finished with two RBIs.
Johnson went 1-for-2 and also reached via a walk three times. Pratt Ferguson drove in two runs on 2-for-5 batting.
Drudge went 1-for-5 with a run driven in. Hutton was 2-for-5 with one RBI as well.
Thomas recorded an RBI while walking three times.
Athens Academy remained in region play this week.
The Spartans played at Athens Christian on Tuesday after press time. Games two will be played at Athens Academy on Thursday and the series will conclude Friday at Athens Christian.
