Five Questions with Coach Walton

What led you to coaching?
I started coaching because I had an amazing experience with my high school cross country team and I wanted to share my excitement about running while also helping provide a similar experience to future runners.

What are your hobbies?
I like to run (duh!). I also enjoy traveling. My wife and I have a goal to visit all 50 states by the age of 50. We’re almost up to 40 and love planning and experiencing the attractions in every state we have visited!

Who was your favorite athlete when you were growing up?
Michael Jordan -- I was a huge North Carolina fan and thought I was going to be an NBA basketball player. Like many other kids my age, Michael Jordan was the person I most wanted to be like!

As a child, what was your favorite professional sports team?
The Braves have always been my favorite team. I was a fan through the 1980's when the team was constantly fighting to crawl out of the basement. I would attend games with a couple hundred other fans…it was pitiful. Then, in the 1990's I celebrated with the rest of Atlanta as Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Chipper Jones led the Braves to several playoff berths and a World Series title.

If you could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I would love to go around the world! I have a friend who once bought a plane ticket that allowed him to stop anywhere he wanted as long as he continued traveling in the same direction. He spent nine months traveling all over the world. I'm not sure if any airline still offers that deal, but I think that would be amazing!

Thanks, Coach Walton!
